Pat and Dick have been sailing since 1985. This is our third sail boat. We have over 10,000 miles of sailing including East Coast New England, Caribbean, Gulf of Mexico, Sea of Cortez (lower), and The Channel Islands right here in Santa Barbara.

Dick Wotruba - (Captain) 65yrs. young retired Santa Barbara City College Counselor. Member of US Pan Am Games Decathlon. Married to Pat Hayes Wotruba and has three children and four grand-children. He is a Graduate of The College of the Holy Cross and University of Massachusetts PhD. He enjoys wine, good company, adventure, challenges and telling sea stories.
 
 
Pat Wotruba- (1st Mate) Wife of Dick (AKA Richie) for 42 yrs, is the Mom of three grown children and grandma to four: Ashleigh, Brady, and twin grandsons Ethan and Kellen. She has worked as a registered nurse in various fields of nursing: an educator, hospital staff nurse, and business owner of a nurses registry. Pat plans, besides cruising to new adventures with the captain as a retired couple and meeting other cruisers, to relax, learn new languages, dive and be the new and improved Martha Stewart of the Yachting World.

Ed Huckins- has been boating for over 35 years and owned his own sailboat for the past 27 years. He has sailed the California coast extensively from San Francisco to San Diego including a month at Channel Islands most years. He has previously made the trip from La Paz to San Diego via sailboat. He and Cindy (and fuzzy the cat) have sailed over 15000 miles on their current J40. Ed was with us as crew from 1/18/03 San Diego until 1/26/03 Cabos San Lucas when he headed back home to Cindy in San Diego. He left with us on Crusader lots of knowledge and improvements on the computer email, navigation and years of his experiences of electronics from his own sailboat Mal de Mar. Thanks Ed.
 
 
 
 
Stephen Young- former decorated Navy pilot: a Master of Science, Mechanical Engineering; and recently retired Director of Engineering at Hughes/Raytheon Santa Barbara Remote Sensing has joined the “Crusader” to sail from Santa Barbara to Manzanillo, Mexico. Steve lives in Santa Barbara with his wife Carlene Van Pelt. When at home he can frequently be seen sailing his own boat "Serenity" a Catalina 36 in the local waters. Steve was with us from 1/15/03 Santa Barbara till 2/07/03 Barre de Navidad on the mainland of Mexico when he left for home and to see Carleen in Santa Barbara. Steve is patient thorough and knowledgeable in sailing the seas. His energy will be missed as a crew member but most of all his friendship on Crusader. Thanks Steve
